OUR STORY

The Society history is slightly blurred in the mists of time, but as best we can tell this is our story…
The St David’s Society of Singapore was founded in 1948, but the Welsh Community here in Singapore have celebrated the feast of St David since at least 1912 when the Straits Times reported that the Welsh community dined together at the luxurious Grand Hotel de L’Europe, where the Supreme Courts stands today. In 1929 the Welsh Society celebrated St David’s Day with a ‘fancy gymkhana’ and in 1953 the society ball drew 100 Welsh People and 50 friends to the Adelphi Hotel Roof Garden.

The Society is grateful for a donation made many years ago in return for kindness shown by a Welsh family, which has enabled us to continue through some leaner years. Now on a firmer footing and with a dedicated committee and enthusiastic members, we are looking forward to a long and successful future as a society.

Today the Society continues to bring the community together at our events and ensure that no matter how far away we are from home, you are never too far away from hwyl and cwtches!
